I'm not expert on this, but it sounds to me as if Henry shares some things with some survivors of major traumas, like war or torture. They can't help feeling somehow distanced from their former lives, as if they are not quite all there, a defensive mechanism no doubt. Probably he will improve over time, and possibly he'll never be quite the same as he was. All your reactions seem completely understandable and completely reasonable to me. Things change; life sometimes seems unfair. To quote a line from an obscure 1945 sub-B-movie I love, "Detour," "Sometimes life just sticks out its foot to trip you." Good luck dealing with it all; it sounds like you're coping quite well. My guess is that you'll get more used to the new Henry even as he improves.

Thanks also for the good wishes. What's exciting for me about my work is that in addition to making improvements on older types of work, which I want to still continue, I keep finding new and very different kinds of things to do. Of course most obscure artists turn out to be not so good, but I console myself with the thought that many of the very greatest were not recognized at all at first. I'm determined to keep working, one way or another.

Take care, Nikki.
